Abstract

Practice faculty new to the academic environment will find multiple and sometimes conflicting demands placed on them because of their dual on-campus and practice site responsibilities while at the same time juggling home and family obligations. Personal characteristics and workplace expectations may contribute to imbalance in the academic world. This article reviews risks for imbalance, qualities of successful faculty, roles of college and university leadership in supporting faculty balance, and useful references for further reading.
