Abstract
In recent years, there has been greater demand for online instruction in history at the postsecondary level. These courses meet the needs of majors and non-majors, often fulfilling general education requirements. Expectations for improvement in student retention and balanced budgets have increased demands on department chairs to schedule courses optimally and with high enrollment. This article examines issues faced by history department chairs in meeting the needs of students, faculty, and administration – in particular, class size and technology support – when offering online history instruction.
