Abstract

Situated near the shore of the Caspian Sea in the centuries-old city of Baku—the capital and cultural, scientific, and industrial center of Azerbaijan—the new, 68,700-seat Baku Olympic Stadium arose in just 24 months, a model of fast-track design and construction that drew upon an advanced modeling approach and a structural design that incorporated piled raft foundations typically used in high-rise structures.
