Abstract

Synopsis Revised lithostratigraphical terminology for the subdivisions of the Bearreraig Sandstone Formation in Skye and Raasay is proposed. The sequence of Bajocian ammonite faunas in Trotternish, Skye is summarised. Lower Bajocian zones and subzones recognised are: Discites, Laeviuscula (with-subzones Ovalis (?) and Laeviuscula), Sauzei (with subzones Sauzei and Hebridica), and Humphriesianum (with subzones Cycloides, Humphriesianum and Blagdeni (?)). The Hebridica Subzone is proposed for strata with D. pinguis (Roemer), D. hebridica Morton and associated ammonites, which seem to fall between the Sauzei and Humphriesianum Zones as usually recognised.
