Abstract

Stars have been used for ship navigation from ancient times. Polaris is one of the most common astronomical objects that was used for this purpose. In the present age, star sensors are devices that use position of stars for guidance, navigation and control of spacecraft, satellites, missiles and aircraft. Star sensor includes parts such as microcomputers, frame digitizer, software that includes a star catalog in the star sensor that is saved in the memory, optical system and baffle. Baffle surrounds the optical system to prevent stray radiation coming from the off axis bright objects such as the Earth, Sun and Moon entering the detector and creating intense noise. In this paper, the effect of various parameters such as the coefficient of root mean square roughness, vane angle, and vane depth will be discussed.
