Abstract
In your news story about European Union funding for R&D (July p12), Nigel Mason says that “there is nowhere in the Sixth Framework for the most exciting developments in physics for the past decade–Bose–Einstein condensation or quantum optics”. In fact, there was a place for these topics in the Sixth Framework in the “NMP” priority for nanotechnologies and nanosciences (part 3.4.1.1 of the work programme). It aims to support long-term interdisciplinary research, including quantum- and/or mesoscopic-scale phenomena.
