Abstract

AbstractThe discovery of an emerging extensively drug-resistant bacteria (eXDR) in a screening sample or a bacteriological sampling for diagnostic purposes has major consequences for healthcare workers. Everything must be done to prevent cross-transmission of the resistant microorganism to other hospitalized patient in the department, in the hospital or throughout the index case's course of care. The hygiene team intervenes, assesses the risk of spread according to the way the patient is taken care of on admission and the habits of the unit in terms of prevention and hygiene. A reorganization of care may be necessary to limit contact without reducing the quality and quantity of care needed by the patient (no loss of opportunity). Active surveillance of contact cases, carried out in collaboration with the service, the bacteriology laboratory and hygiene team to detect any secondary cases as early as possible. The notification of new eXDR cases to the Support and Prevention Centers for the Fight against Healthcare Associated Infections (CPias) allows regional and national surveillance of the epidemic situation to be ensured.
