Abstract

The bacteria present in 107 pustules from 27 acne patients were identified and quantitated. The commonest bacteria were Corynebacterium acnes, (73%) coagulase negative cocci (60%) and enterobacteria (10%). Among the cocci 84% were identified as Staphylococcus epidermidis (Baird Parker type S II). Micrococcus isolates were rare. No evidence of an interaction between S. epidermidis and C. acnes was found.
