Abstract

Bacterial vaginosis is considered the most common cause of vaginal discharge in reproductive-aged women. Bacterial vaginosis has been associated with many obstetric complications, in particular preterm birth. The diagnosis and treatment of bacterial vaginosis in pregnancy are reviewed. Recommendations by various organizations regarding screening of low- and high-risk obstetric populations are also examined.
