Bacterial liver abscess in 76 cases

Abstract

Objective To investigate the experience in diagnosis and surgical treatment of bacterial liver abscess.Methods The diagnosis and treatment of 76 patients with bacterial liver abscess from 2000 to 2008 years were reviewed retrospectively.Results Biliary tract disease and diabetes were most frequent causes responsible for bacterial liver abscess.Blood routine showed WBC increased significantly in most cases. Ultrasound and computed tomography were important modality for diagnosis. Percutaneous and transhepatic cholangiography drainage of bacterial liver abscess can be used for most cases,which was simple and safe. Conclusions The most frequent pathogens isolated from bacterial liver abscess are klebsiella pneumoniae and eschedchia coli. Bacterial liver abscess patients should be treated with individual and comprehensive approaches in time.Earlier surgical processes should be takem if necessary.
