Abstract

Bacteriological investigation of the middle ear and nasopharynx in 132 patients with fresh acute purulent otitis media was performed. Results are as follows: 1. Complete bacterial coincidence was noted in 80% of 132 cases, partial coincidence in 12%, and no coincidence in 8%. Considerable coincidence of bacteria in the middle ear and nasopharynx occurred in 92% of 132 cases. 2. Staphylococcus aureus could not be expected as a pathogen in most of these cases. From the results of present investigation, it is concluded that the pathogens of acute otitis media may be suspected from the bacterial culture of the nasopharynx. A82-0751-22162
