Abstract

The injection of (+/-)-baclofen intravenously or directly into the ventromedial hypothalamus of urethane-anaesthetized rats, produced an activation of brown fat metabolism. This was seen as an increase of brown fat and rectal temperatures, and an increase of GDP binding in brown fat mitochondria. The activation was mediated by the sympathetic supply.
