Abstract
In this paper, we present the backward-wave property in left-handed materials (LHM), where the permittivity and permeability are simultaneously less than zero. This property is theoretical proved by formula derivation. Then we presented a novel T-type structure LHM and its double negative property and backward-wave property are verified. We get the novel LHM and a coaxial feed rectangular microstrip antenna together and achieve the effect of backward-wave property on antenna by simulation. The results indicate that by using the LHM, the length of antenna could shorten.
