Abstract

The backward-angle anomalies in elastic alpha-particle scattering have been recently attirbuted to exchange processes such as heavy-particle stripping and knock-on. Using a parameter-free treatment, it is shown that the so far neglected one-particle exchange arising from the antisymmetrisation between the projectile and the target nucleus is important and should be considered in any quantitative analysis of the anomalous alpha-backscattering.
