Abstract
Today, the electric vehicles are a very interesting solution to the problem of air pollution produced by vehicles equipped with combustion motors. On the other hand, the autonomy and high manufacturing cost are the major disadvantages of electric vehicles. To solve these problems, the recent works focuses on the design of electric motors, which is the heart of the traction system of electric vehicles. This type of problem appears very complex. For this reason, a brushless DC wheel motor (BLDC) design problem has been chosen as a benchmark to test the efficiency and the ability of the Backtracking Search Algorithm (BSA) to solve similar optimization problems in order to use it as an optimization algorithm in our next research work. BSA was tested on two different optimization problems and it led to satisfactory results.
