Abstract

An increase in the cosmic-ray component (E > 500 kev) was found to accompany thunderstorms. No correlation was found between nearby individual lightning strokes and count rate, but a general count increase with a time constant of some 10 min was found for all thunderstorms that passed nearby. Flux increases were typically 5%. The nature of the count increase is not known.
