Abstract

This proposal suggests a novel and different system for fast on-line solution of the differential equa tions or difference equations describing a dynamical system (aerospace vehicle, ship, plant, physiologi caZ system, social/economic system, etc.). In an earlier study sponsored by the National Science Foundation, we have demonstrated beyond doubt that on-line, interactive, and scale-factor-free aZZ digital simulation, with a graphic solution display, is far more convenient than analog-hybrid computa tion. We now propose a simple multiprocessor system employing parallel operation of several inexpensive, standard, unmodified, minicomputers for faster on- line simulation at a cost dramatically lower than with conventional digital computers. The essential hardware features of the proposed system will be found in Section 2 of Part III and in Figure 3. Minicomputers specifically suitable for such multi processing are now mass-produced for a very large nonsimulation market; the proposed use of such commercially available components is a significant feature of our system, which will also draw on our laboratory's five years' experience with simulation software and display design.
