Abstract

The Clinical Standards Advisory Group, a Department of Health committee, has been asked by the Government to report on the management of back pain, partly as a result of pressure from people with back pain via the Back Pain Association. It has set up a sub-group on back pain; the CSP has protested that no physiotherapist has been included on it. The group has stated that it intends to use published data, research papers, and information from the many professional groups involved in the management of back pain, and to base its recommendations on proven facts rather than empirical findings. Recommendations will be published in February 1994. The group convened a conference on April 19, 1993.
