Abstract

In response to the increasing disability in low back pain sufferers a governmental initiative examined the pertinent empirical research based evidence and developed management guidelines for low back pain sufferers (CSAG report, 1994). It is the purpose of this article to highlight and explore those findings which are most pertinent to the nursing profession in assisting the overall management of patients with low back pain. The aforementioned CSAG report suspects changes in client expectation, medical management and social provision to be key factors in the increase of low back pain (LBP) disability.
