The mice displayed the alleviated lung injury. The image is taken from Chen et al. (pp. 1234–1245), where the authors show that pretreatment with NTS confers protection against sepsis in mice. NTS blocks both the non-canonical and canonical pyroptotic pathways but does not affect apoptosis. Mechanistically, as a selective caspase inhibitor, NTS could directly and irreversibly inhibit the enzyme activities of inflammatory caspases (i.e. caspase-1/-4/-11). Furthermore, NTS is safe for intraperitoneally injection in mice, suggesting that it may be used as a prototype to develop drugs for sepsis treatments. Volume51, Issue5May 2021 RelatedInformation
