They have studied the electronic and magnetic properties of anatase TiO2 with titanium cation vacancy using first-principles full potential linear augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) calculations. Anatase TiO2 may become magnetic when the Ti vacancy is present in the non-magnetic host, making it possibly a high Curie temperature ferromagnetic material. The magnetic moment mainly originates from the oxygen atoms surrounding the vacancy. Moreover, two Ti vacancies in anatase always couple ferromagnetically.
