Abstract

The change of the potential of zero charge (pzc) of a single layer graphene (SLG) electrode in contact with EMI,TFSI ionic-liquid-based electrolyte is reported by Yanwu Zhu, Patrice Simon, and co-workers in their Research Article on page 13317. The strong interactions between the SLG surface and the EMI+ cation (red) in neat ionic liquid are weakened in the presence of acetonitrile solvent molecules (yellow), leading to an increase in the charge carrier density at the electrolyte/SLG interface and a positive shift of the pzc.
