Abstract
Sunday: The Departure Lounge, Ankara, reminds me of our Senior Common Room with its leatherette chairs and cool‐drinks dispenser. I have just completed a tour undertaken for the CVCNP (Committee of Vice‐Chancellors with No Principles) to study staff morale in institutions without tenured posts. Perhaps I can write the report on the plane. Incidentally have been able to collect useful material for my research student; her provisional thesis title is ‘Constraints on higher education under repressive régimes in the free world’. Contemplate writing a regular column for THES.
