L ong after the Hippocratic era, near the beginning of the Sjogrenic era of dry eye, in the watershed period at the end/beginning of the 19th/20th centuries, a bacillus was discovered in dry eye patients that caused great excitement among ophthalmologists: the Bacillus xerosis. Its discovery had not been easy and had taken a long time.
