Abstract
In 2008, the jazz trio The Bad Plus (piano, bass, and drums), on their album For All I Care, released two performances of their own arrangement of Babbitt’s Semi-Simple Variations (one of which includes an improvisation within it). A founding member of the group discusses the origins of this along with a tongue-in-cheek video in which three members of the Mark Morris Dance Company dance to this jazz rendition of Babbitt’s composition.
