Abstract

We have measured the temperature dependence of the nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) frequency, ν Q. and the spin-lattice relaxation time of 135Ba and 137Ba in the superconductor YBa 2Cu 4O 8 (T c = 81 K). The temperature dependence of ν Q ( T) is given by ν Q ( T) = ν Q (0)(1− AT α ). The relaxation is a quadrupolar origin and can be described perfectly by a two-phonon Raman process with a Debye temperature of 185 K.
