Abstract
This paper summarizes current status of knowledge and technical issues for safety enhancement by severe accident management for Core damage prevention in case of accidents. For fuel damage prevention, it is necessary to accurately predict the boiling behavior and the mixture level with complex changes during severe accident. The influence of components of the seawater used as an alternative water injection and the knowledge about the oxidation behavior of the fuel cladding are also important. Also, the effect of the cooling by the secondary cooling system, as the PWR-speciflc issue, was selected as an important factor. Technical issues related to prevention of damage to the fuel in the spent fuel pool were also extracted.
