Abstract

Optical trap and induced motion of fine solid particles in water and on the surface of a water droplet by YAG laser beam are discussed in this paper. The gradient force with the radiation pressure of a focused laser beam enables to trap the transparent fine particles in three dimensions. A laser trapping force depends on the numerical aperture of an objective lens and optical characteristics of particle material. Only one numerical aperture of an objective lens was used and also two kinds of solid particles in experiments such as silica, and glass particles were selected. Two dimensional) trap of particles on water surface and in water was observed in video datum.
