Abstract

The article examines the contribution of two German artists of Jewish origin to Azerbaijani art. In the article, the author presents these two artists as the artists who laid the foundations of design in Azerbaijan. Both artists, working in the field of book and magazine illustration, scenography and many other areas, laid the foundations of design art in Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, no matter how successful these artists were in their work, their personal lives failed. Oskar Schmerling lived a difficult life, and his son became the last victim of repression. Joseph Rotter was exiled to Siberia during the war and died there.
