Azithromycin 1.5 % ophthalmic solution: a guide to its use in purulent bacterial conjunctivitis and trachomatous conjunctivitis

Abstract

Azithromycin 1.5 % ophthalmic solution (Azyter®) is an effective and well-tolerated option for treating purulent bacterial conjunctivitis or trachomatous conjunctivitis. In terms of clinical cure rates, azithromycin 1.5 % ophthalmic solution for 3 days is superior or noninferior to tobramycin 0.3 % ophthalmic solution for 7 days in children and adults with purulent bacterial conjunctivitis, and noninferior to a single dose of azithromycin oral suspension in children with trachomatous conjunctivitis.
