Abstract

In the recent work, the authors provide an overview of the significant advances and challenges during the last two decades of the activities of the oncodermatology working group. In the field of the primary and secondary prevention, the focus of interest was the early recognition of melanoma, a more precise understanding of the rare types of the disease, and an improvement of the population's skin cancer-related knowledge and sun protection habits. In the field of tertiary prevention, the emergence of targeted and immunotherapy represented a major breakthrough. The new opportunities and the change in attitude have resulted in the fact, that nowadays we can treat our skin cancer patients with improved survival rate and better quality of life, comparable to other European centers.
