Abstract
Vein is said to be varicose when it i s dilated, tortuous and elongated. It appears commonly in long standing people like police, d rivers and rickshaw pullers , older people and obese. Varicose ulcer is clinical manifestation of chronic venous insufficiency. The pathogenesis starts w ith dysfunction of venous valves causing venous hypertension which stretches the vein s resulting in ulce r formation. In modern , conservatively advise stocking, foot end elevation and Heparin medicatio ns. The laksh ana of sirag ranthi and dush ta v r a na mentioned by Acharya Vaghbat and Sushrutas resembles varicose vein and venous ulcer respectively. Mainly siramo kshan, shodhan and ropan are its prime treatment modalities. Surgical modelities involve saphenofemoral junction ligation and greater saph enous stripping and saphenopopliteal junction ligature and lesser saphenous stripping, sclerotheoraphy, subfascial lig ation of Cockett and Dodd split skin graft, r adical surgical approach and bypass surgery. S o treatment modalities mentioned in classics need to be followed to avoid the surgery complications.
