Abstract

Money has been described in diverse ways by the characters in Ayn Rand’s ‘Atlas Shrugged.’ The novel highlights how ‘making money’ distinguishes the producers from the looters or the moochers. On one side there are characters such as Hank Rearden, Dagny Taggart and Ellis Wyatt and on the other side there are characters such as James Taggart and Wesley Mouch. The novel is not just a story of the revolution brought forth by the heroes against the villains, it is a celebration of the spirit of business and this spirit continues to finds relevance in the contemporary world. This paper discusses the contrasting perception of money from the point of view of Francisco d’Anconia on one side and James Taggart on the other.
