Abstract

Biodiesel is a kind of fuel whose usage has been compulsorily offered by the European Union and has proved its commercial success in many countries as an environmental alternative for fuel. Biodiesel is a crucial subject for Turkiye and also for the other countries because of importing the great deal of their crude oil demand is rising day by day and if we consider our country as an agricultural society we can attach great importance to the production potential of biodiesel that can be get into action effectively. In the first stage of this study crude oil which is produced of sunflower by using cold pressing technique. After transesterification method is used to statistical analysis the parameters of the sunflower oil biodiesel upon the effective rates of the freezing point and flash point temperatures. In order to put forth the effects of the catalyst concentration, reaction temperature, alcohol/oil molar ratio parameters of the sunflower oil methyl ester of freezing point and flash point temperatures the experiments are carried out in 30°C, 40°C and 50°C reaction temperature, the alcohol/oil molar ratios are 1/3, 1/6, 1/8 and 1/10 and the oil mass rates are stated as 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% using KOH catalyst. As a result of the statistical analysis on the freezing point of sunflower oil methyl ester, the amount of catalyst concentration, reaction temperature, and alcohol/oil molar ratio parameters, the flash point is above the amount of the catalyst concentration and reaction temperature parameters are found to be effective. Levels are found to be effective for the parameters are determined statistically.
