Abstract
Abstract The governing differential equations for the multi-layer circular sandwich cylindrical shells are derived by means of a variational theorem. The derivation is based on the shells consisting of two cores and three facings but the governing equations may be applied directly to any number of cores, provided the total thickness is still small compared to the other dimensions. The facings are considered as membranes, and an example in the form of a supported circular cylindrical shell under uniform pressure, illustrates the theory.
