Abstract

A nonlinear asymptotic theory is developed for the study of surface waves in a rotating viscous fluid with a cylindrical air core, and the mathematical model considered is relevant to phenomena of engineering and geophysical interest. The theory yields an asymptotic equation governing the evolution of axisymmetric waves on the cylindrical free surface of the fluid, and also a stability criterion for the wave motion.
