Abstract
The present paper examines the problem of the axisymmetric translation of a rigid disc shaped inclusion which is embedded in bonded contact in an isotropic elastic solid. The plane containing the inclusion is weakened by an external circular crack. The mathematical analysis of the mixed boundary value problem concentrates on the evaluation of the load-displacement relationship for the penny-shaped inclusion and the stress intensity factor at the boundary of the externally cracked region.
