Abstract

In order to derive reliable bounds on axion and dilaton parameters from the neutrino burst of SN1987 A one needs to precisely evaluate emissivities for the nucleon bremsstrahlung process; n + n -> n + n + a(D). This is done in the non-degenerate, intermediate temperature range relevant to physical conditions at the time of burst emission, using a precise matrix element of this process and the result is compared with previous calculations. A possible window for the hadronic axion is also discussed in some detail.
