Abstract

J. L. STODDART1 states that floral initiation in red clover begins by the enlargement of the shoot apex. The following observations show that the actual shoot apex is absorbed by an adjoining lateral bud. The origin of the terminal inflorescence of this species as a lateral bud is therefore similar to that of the axillary inflorescence in other species.
