Abstract
Axial dispersion of a tracer in liquid flow segmented by gas bubbles is investigated by numerical calculations using a lumped parameter model. Slow mixing in the liquid segments is shown to be the major factor in determining the magnitude of axial dispersion, measured by the second central moment of the tracer concentration distribution. Experimental results obtained at a variety of tracer inputs substantiate the model predictions. Additionally, convolution and deconvolution of concentration profiles at the output are discussed. 22 refs.
