Abstract
After a decade‐long effort, the U.S. Commerce Department announced on July 28 that it has completed installing high‐tech, interactive weather computer and communications system units at 152 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) sites across the country.The Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) significantly improves weather and flood‐related services of the National Weather Service (NWS), according to NOAA, a division of the Commerce Department that includes NWS.
