Abstract

Sometimes each of us must take a step back and reconsider how we view our lives, and ask ourselves whether we have become so involved in the everyday that we are missing something more significant. I was fortunate recently, having read about the importance to our psyches of being 'in awe' ( Cook 2009 ), to spend seven days on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. My objective was to become awestruck and, in this city, home to three of the world's great faiths, I found it is difficult not to be.
