Abstract

Background: The degree of general awareness of the recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) therapy determines its success. However, poor compliance with therapy has previously resulted in negative clinical outcomes. Our study assessed the awareness, treatment practice, and compliance of pediatric patients and their parents, with regard to rhGH therapy. Methods: Data for this descriptive cross-sectional study was obtained through clinical interviews with 301 children and their parents regarding their personal and demographic and clinical characteristics. Results: Majority of the participants (92%) correctly identified that rhGH increased the linear growth of the child. Additionally, 88.4% of the sample preferred the nocturnal injection, and 85.3% complied with the therapy. Conclusion: Adherence to rhGH therapy is essential in maintaining growth velocity, and long-term satisfactory results. Therefore, it is imperative to educate patients, along with their families, about the importance of adhering to their treatment protocols and the factors that enhance their effects.
