Abstract

The role of the disadvantaged in the social structure has been defined by society on the basis of three aspects of their existence: (1) pervasive discrimination and segregation; (2) deprived ghetto areas; and (3) frustrated aspiration.1 Early in life children living in this deprived environment perceive their position as it is defined by society, for they are constantly confronted with the realities of poverty and segregation. It is of importance to consider this social awareness in the planning and execution of the educational process.
