Abstract

Reading plays a vital role in collegiate education. The purpose of the study is to identify the level of awareness of the engineering students in deploying the reading strategies while comprehending the text materials. The sample population constitutes 72 first year students studying at a private university. The study has used questionnaire method to understand the reading strategy awareness of the students. The study has identified that the first year students are moderately aware of the reading strategies. Further, the study has also identified that the students are interested in learning these reading strategies. Thus, the study suggests that students require explicit training in these reading strategies.
