Abstract

This study focuses on the use of e-journals by the students of TKM College of Engineering (TKMCE), Kollam, India. The survey was conducted through a structured questionnaire circulated among 200 engineering students from different departments of the TKMCE. E-journals are the most preferred e-resource among the respondents. Google is the most widely used search engine for locating information electronically. Majority of respondents use online journals for their academic work and most of them take printout before using online journals. It was found that users faced problem when using online journals and one of the major problems faced was slow speed of Internet. They were also interested to take training to use online journals. Furthermore, it is found that e-resources can be good substitutes for conventional resources, if the access is fast, and more computer terminals are installed to provide fast access to e-resources. The paper concludes that electronic journals have become an integral part of the information needs of the engineering college students.
