Abstract
This award is given to individuals who have made sustained and enduring contributions to international cooperation and the advancement of knowledge in psychology. The 2020 recipient of the APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology was selected by the Board of Directors, as recommended by the Committee on International Relations in Psychology (CIRP). Sharon G. Horne is a respected leader in advancing a liberatory international psychology through integration of cross-cultural, social justice, and transnational feminist counseling psychology in her teaching and scholarship. Partnering with colleagues in Russia, Kyrgystan, Colombia, South Africa, the Philippines, and other countries, Dr. Horne has investigated critical social issues, including violence against women, LGBTQ justice and mental health, and culture-centered training in counseling psychology. She leads the profession in the decolonization of international psychological research, especially by amplifying the voices and wisdom of colleagues outside the United States and in preparing the next generation for this important transnational feminist work.
