Abstract

The Award for Distinguished Contributions to Research in Public Policy is given to a psychologist who has made a distinguished empirical and/or theoretical contribution to research in public policy, either through a single extraordinary achievement or a lifetime of work. This contribution may consist of such factors as research leading others to view specific national policies differently; research demonstrating the importance of the application of psychological methods and theory to public policy; or research clarifying the ways in which scientific knowledge of human behavior informs public policy. Martin Y. Iguchi's work continues to impact the underserved in our communities, particularly his work to decrease the consequences of addiction and disease. He has a long history of bridge-building between academic entities, between academia and communities, and between academia and the public at large. Dr. Iguchi was an invaluable mentor to scholars of color and a role model to first-generation researchers. Dr. Iguchi served on numerous APA boards and committees, journal editorial boards, advisory boards, and scientific review panels. His dedication and humanism have been recognized with countless prestigious awards, and his influence in the field of psychology continues to this day.
