Abstract

As TESOL teacher educators, we are also frustrated by requests to present PD that, in its nature, feels more like a drive by presentation than the advancement of adult learning, reflective praxis, and innovative pedagogy. For us, this matter is not just professional, but also reflects our personal identities and experiences: we are not only TESOL teacher educators but also parents to bilingual and bicultural children. Deeply entrenched within us is the idea that multilingual learners deserve more and better. This frustration came to a head in June 2020, when we were hired to conduct PD to disrupt bias in a district that reflected the national trend; student demographics were changing and the teaching force remained white.
