Abstract

Intertrochanteric fractures are common among the elderly. Although current operative techniques promote successful healing of the vast majority of these fractures, the relatively small percentage of cases in which treatment failures occur constitutes a substantial absolute number of cases. This discussion provides the background for decision making in the operative treatment of failed intertrochanteric fractures. Important technical points of revision surgery are considered.
